At the beginning of May 2016., two of four volunteering programs have started in Mljet National Park as part of Ministry of Enviromental and Nature Protection’s project of volunteering in Croatian parks. We are very proud on the fact that we received biggest number of applications in this project.
Through the program of “Builder of Mountain Trails”, Croatian Hiking Association “Papuk” was marking the hiking trails for a week. After them, new volunteers arrived as part of the program of “Cleaners of Mljet Coves”. Every day, 11 volunteers, all individuals coming from different parts of Croatia are cleaning bays and coves of Mljet National Park and remove a large amount of plastic and other sea waste. Statistic from yesterday’s cleaning is very interesting and it show how serious is the problem of the sea waste. In one day, our volunteers collected 131 garbage bags, 2100 plastic bottles and more than 400 shoes. Through different volunteering programs and action in period of 40 days, our volunteers have collected more than 850 garbage bags of sea waste.
Volunteering programs in Mljet National Park will continue through the entire year and all who are interested are still able to apply for our two programs of “Opinion Seeker” and “Photo Amateur”
