Dear bat lovers,
The Public institution “Mljet National Park” is pleased to invite you to celebrate the International Night of Bats, which will take place on August 25, 2024 in the beautiful surroundings of our Park. This is a unique opportunity for all ages to learn more about bats, these fascinating and useful creatures that often remain in the shadows.
Program of events:
18:00 – 19:00 | Creative art workshop for children in cooperation with the Mala otočka biblioteka
We start the program with a workshop where our youngest participants will have the opportunity to express their creativity and imagination through drawing and making different motifs inspired by bats. All materials are provided, and children will be able to take home their works as a memory of this special day.
19:00 – 19:30 | Lecture on bats and demonstration of the use of bat detectors
After the workshop, there will be an educational lecture where our experts will introduce the world of bats – their importance in the ecosystem, myths and facts, as well as the challenges they face. You will find out why it is important to preserve these night fliers and how we can help them. Participants will have the opportunity to take part in a practical demonstration of the use of a bat detector – a device that enables identification and tracking of bats using ultrasonic signals. You will learn how to monitor their activity in nature.
19:30 – 20:15 | Boat ride on the Great Lake with a concert
Finally, enjoy a relaxing boat ride on the lake with the sounds of music and the romantic atmosphere of the evening. This will be an opportunity for additional socializing and enjoying the charms of Mljet National Park under the starry sky with Dora Kamber on violin and Pero Škobelj on guitar.
